Characters
Lucky
Lucky is our unlikely but lovable protagonist, living in a futuristic Colombo where he carries the tarnished legacy of his ancestor, Maha Dena Muttha. Often underestimated and seen as the butt of jokes, Lucky’s enduring passion, faith in humanity, and conviction in his beliefs make him an instant hero. Despite his occasional failures, he is deeply connected to his ancestors and is driven by a love for improving the lives of others. Lucky’s ties to the Moonstone and the sacred book are profound and intergenerational, linking him to the magic and surrealism abundant in Sri Lanka. Endearingly human, he propels the story forward with his unfaltering sense of purpose and determination to uncover the true wisdom of his ancestor, believing it can still bring enlightenment and change.
Taniya
Taniya is Lucky’s best friend and a force of nature. Fierce, feisty, and unapologetic, she boldly navigates her tuk-tuk through the bustling streets of Colombo, wearing her heart on her sleeve. Taniya’s loyalty to Lucky is unwavering, yet she isn’t afraid to stand her ground during disagreements, often acting as his protector. Their strong friendship allows both to become their best selves. Her flair for adventure and rule-breaking is crucial to the story, enabling her and Lucky to forge their own path through numerous obstacles. In the end, Taniya's deeper connection to the sacred book is revealed, making her a pivotal figure in reclaiming the true legacy of Maha Dena Muttha.
Chandi
Chandi is Lucky’s arch-nemesis, always clashing with him thanks to Lucky's unsolicited advice that often lands Chandi in trouble. Their rivalry runs deep, going back generations, fueled by a long-standing family feud. As the son of a wealthy politician, Chandi embodies arrogance, entitlement, and a toxic attitude, yet beneath the surface, he is insecure and desperate for his father’s approval. Constantly butting heads with Lucky and Taniya, Chandi competes fiercely in their quest for the sacred book. He doesn't hesitate to use unethical means to achieve his goals, representing the shallowness and selfishness of those in power.
Maha Dana Muttha
Maha Dena Muttha is a revered yet misunderstood figure from Sri Lankan folklore. Once a wise man who led a group of earnest disciples, he now finds himself remembered as a comical character dispensing absurd and ill-timed advice. In reality, Maha Dena Muttha is a sage with a profound secret, locked in a race against his lifelong rival, Aarachchi, to secure an ancient Book of Wisdom. As time runs out, he entrusts the book to Nila, a magical creature of the forest, ensuring its safety for future generations
Nila
Nila is a magical creature inspired by the Nittaewo hominids, believed to be native to Sri Lanka. After consuming enough nil veralu (blue olives), Nila enters an ecstatic trance and transforms into a whirling dervish. As the guardian of the Book of Wisdom, Nila has a deep, enduring connection to Maha Dena Muttha and his disciples. Nila becomes an essential ally for Lucky and Taniya, intimately tied to the spirit of the forest. Representing the mysticism at the heart of the story, Nila embodies the possibility of magic when it is needed the most.
Kolitha
Kolitha is spry, quick to anger, and deeply passionate about nature. Knowing the forest like the back of his hand, he lives in a treehouse, immersed in the natural world. Kolitha is one of the few who possess the secret of the Moonstone and has even formed a friendship with Nila, the magical being. He is highly critical of those in power, like Chandi, especially when they fail to appreciate the forest's magic. Initially suspicious of the city-dwelling Lucky and Taniya, Kolitha eventually joins forces with them to protect the forest and unlock the secret of the Moonstone.
Sambro
Sambro is an angampora instructor, a master of the traditional Sri Lankan martial art, and an eternal optimist. He is best friends with Kolitha and one of Chandi’s few allies in the village. Believing that Chandi's influence could benefit the village and its people, Sambro lends him support, often clashing with the more skeptical Kolitha. However, Sambro’s strong values and deep sense of community eventually lead him to see the truth about Chandi. Rediscovering his rich heritage and commitment to the forest, Sambro turns against Chandi, aligning himself with the true protectors of their land.
